DENTAL VENEERS Q & A
What are dental veneers?
Veneers are very thin porcelain shells that bond to your teeth to change their shape, size, and color. They’re the simplest way to dramatically change your smile without undergoing major dental work. Porcelain veneers are natural-looking and stain-resistant, so you never have to worry about tooth discoloration.
What are the benefits of dental veneers?
Most people use veneers to hide imperfections in their smiles. At Prestige 5th Avenue Dental, Dr. Simkha uses veneers to correct the following:
- Cracked or broken teeth
- Severe tooth discoloration
- Misshapen teeth
- Chipped teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Teeth worn down by grinding
- Small teeth
- Gaps in teeth
Veneers can also reshape teeth that are unusually pointed or long compared to the rest of your teeth.
How do I prepare for dental veneers?
The first step in placing veneers is coming in for a consultation with Dr. Simkha. During this initial visit, she examines your teeth and takes X-rays to determine whether your teeth are healthy enough for veneers. If you have severe tooth decay, gum disease, or a tooth infection, you may need additional dental treatments before Dr. Simkha can place your veneers.
To prepare your teeth for veneers, Dr. Simkha removes a small portion of your enamel to make room for the porcelain shell. This ensures that the veneer blends in perfectly with the rest of your teeth.
Finally, Dr. Simkha takes an impression of your teeth to make a mold for your new veneer. She may fit you for temporary veneers before you leave to protect your teeth from damage while you wait for the permanent restoration.
How do dentists place veneers?
Creating a permanent veneer takes approximately two weeks. When you return to Prestige 5th Avenue Dental for your final visit, Dr. Simkha removes the temporary veneer and replaces it with a permanent one. She first cleans the tooth to ensure no bacteria is trapped underneath the veneer and then etches the tooth so the veneer can bond to it.
Finally, Dr. Simkha cements the veneer to your tooth and trims any excess material to fit your teeth perfectly. The entire process should take at most two hours.
Veneers can help you achieve the smile you deserve. To schedule a visit with Dr. Simkha, call Prestige 5th Avenue Dental or book an appointment online today.
